Ramya was born in Chennai to senior advocate K.Subramanian and homemaker Vasanthi. She completed her schooling in PSBB till 10th and continued her 11th and 12th in Adarsh Vidyalaya. She further graduated in BSc Visual Communication from MOP Vaishnav College, Chennai. Ramya has also completed her masters in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Ramya had an arranged marriage to Aparjith Jayaraman in 2014, however it ended in divorce, with Ramya claiming that she knew that the marriage was over in just 10 days
